History

At Virginia Tech, Alpha Kappa Epsilon, AKE, was founded on November 15, 1961 by the thirteen men from Blacksburg. The president was Mike Heavner, and the Vice President was Joel Silvey. Charter Brother Bill Lewis was Tech’s First Rhodes Scholar. The first pledge class of AKE entered the brotherhood in the fall of 1962.

AKE was founded with the aim of developing Scholarship, Leadership, Friendship, Integrity and Brotherhood. Among its brothers, our fraternity motto is Lambda Beta, ΛΒ, its meaning is known only to the brothers of the local fraternity, our local colors are red and white.

The fraternity has had several houses at VT. The first was at 1205 North Main Street. The second was at 202 Turner Street. The current house was purchased by the EHAF, Inc., June 15, 1978. This house is located at 600 South Main Street, Blacksburg, VA.

AKE was initiated as a colony of Phi Sigma Kappa in November 1970 by the Brothers of the Psi Chapter from the University of Virginia. Upon receipt of its Charter on May 13, 1972, AKE formally adopted the new title Phi Sigma Kappa. The chapter became affiliated with the National Chapter designation of Epsilon Hexaton.
